Surprise Christmas party for the elderly
The elders were showered with love by caterers
Tsakani – Tsakane Old Age home residents were surprised with a Christmas party on Wednesday.
A group of caterers thought it was a fitting and well-deserved treat for the elders.
Thandi Radime, a caterer, said she came up with the idea and met other caterers who helped put the idea to life.
The caterers baked a cake for the elders, cooked for them, bought them gifts and decorated the hall where the party was enjoyed.
Nhlanhla Kubeka of Vikizolo Pty Ltd said: “It was nice to have a day dedicated to our elders, as it takes a village to raise a child it also takes a village to take care of the elders.
“They were so happy that they asked us to come more often.”
The caterers said they wanted to shower the elders with love and make them feel special.
Radime said: “We are still going to do more; we still want to donate clothes and show them that they are still loved.
“We have elders who are deserted, have no relatives and have no children; therefore they need us to be there for them.
“We are also thanking God that they are still alive, especially after the pandemic.”
The elders were treated to a two-course meal, rice, veggies and grilled chicken, and a cake for dessert.
“The elders were very happy and it made us happy as well. We will soon visit them as well,” said Nthabiseng Phiwane of The Venue.
Radime said in future they will include other caterers in doing such programmes and in giving back to the community.
Old age home manager Phoko Mokubung said: “We received a call that they would like to come to donate some things.
“To our surprise, the caterers started decorating the hall when they arrived and what we had thought would be a donation turned into a party.
“Our elders were very happy and we are also happy. We are grateful to the caterers.”
