Pit bull attack survivor shares her ordeal
Nonhlahla Nhleko Sibeko is lucky to be alive after she was attacked by a pit bull.
Duduza – Pit-bull attack survivor Nonhlanhla Nhleko Mabena fears that she might not regain the use of her arms again.
The 29-year-old was attacked by two pit bulls while walking home around 22:00 two weeks ago.
The two dogs allegedly managed to flee from their home through a water pipe 500 meters away.
Nhlanhla said while approaching closer to the home, she heard a sound but could not see anyone in the empty streets.
“When I looked down, I saw the two dogs standing in opposite directions. I tried to chase them away but they were ready to attack me.
“Before I knew they started biting and pulling my flesh from different directions. I lost balance and fell,” she added.
Nonhlahla was rescued by residents who fought to remove the dogs from her, unsuccessfully, until they splashed them with boiling water. She is now struggling to overcome the trauma and depression.
Nonhlanhla said whenever she tries to close her eyes, she sees the two dogs pulling chunks of flesh off her body.
“During the attack, I slipped in and out of consciousness several times and thought I was going to die from the attack.

“Every time I regained consciousness, they were still feeding off my body and pulling me by my hair,” she added.
She explained that she now depends on others for basic things like bathing herself and eating and can’t hold her one-year-old child.
“The doctors advised me that I might not regain the function of my arms and that healing of the open wounds would take months.
“What quality of life do I have when I am forced to depend on others for basic things like bathing and feeding myself?” she added.
