Reading foundation celebrated Christmas
Kwa-Thema – Lushanta Reading Foundation is an NPO based at Tonk Meter Crossing, led by the management at the centre.
The foundation hosts 70 to 100 children every Saturday to teach them how to read.
Carolyn Weedon, founder member and the principal said, “Most children around the area can’t read. Therefore, we teach them to read in English and do everything in the centre in English, which makes the children familiar with the language.
“We currently have fewer children as many have already gone on holiday.”
The foundation celebrated Christmas on Saturday at the centre when the children were treated to face painting and some snacks.
The centre is home to Grade One to Grade Five children who spend their Saturdays at the centre from 09:00 to 12:00.
