Reckless and negligent driving case opened after taxi rolls

The 58-year-old driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

Tsakani – Sixteen passengers were injured when a minibus taxi overturned on Heidelberg Road on Monday night.

It is believed that the taxi was travelling from Boksburg to Tsakani when the rear left tyre burst.

The 58-year-old male driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and it rolled, ejecting some commuters.

The passengers flung from the taxi as well as the driver sustained serious injuries, while those remaining in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.

EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said that the necessary stakeholders were summoned.

Ambulances transported the injured to the nearest hospital for medical attention.

A case of reckless and negligent driving was registered at the Brakpan Police Station, pending further investigation.
