Back-to-school preparations underway, learners receive free haircuts

Tsakani – Tsakani resident Mlungisi Mnisi gathered his friends to help him reach his goal of seeing learners go back to school this year with fresh haircuts.

On Monday, children went to an open space opposite Tsakane Mall for a haircut to gear up for the school opening on Wednesday.

The free haircut was offered to children who are six to 14 years of age and most of which are without parents.

The children were entertained with music while waiting their turn.

Mnisi said: “I’m about to form an organisation which will help children.

“In December, I took groceries to different child-headed households and that is when I got this idea of giving children a haircut come school opening.

“I then spoke to my friends and they were more than willing to lend a hand.”

A grandparent of two girls aged nine and 10 said: “I feel this is a great initiative and I hope it will continue from this day forward.”

Mnisi said he’ll make this haircut programme an annual event and that there are initiatives he’s working on for children, which will be seen happening in February and March.
