Club struggles to host home games due to poor pitch conditions

Project to fix Kwa-Thema complex

Kwa-Thema – The Kwa-Thema Cricket Hub at the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex faces challenges because their field is in a poor state.

The complex’s fence was ransacked, making it easy for criminals and cows to enter and destroy the field and pitch.

“We have a budget, but it is mostly used to transport our players to away games,” said coach Mandlan Nkosi.

“Our pitch covers were stolen, making it difficult to host games, especially during the rainy season.

“We lose points when teams come to play here and find the field and pitch wet.

“We also lose points if we confirm to teams that we are ready to host. Then cows enter at night and leave potholes, making it difficult for us to play,” Nkosi said.

Nkosi continued, “We don’t even have a grass-mowing machine because it is broken.”

Nkosi said the oval was once fenced but has now been vandalised.

“The complex doesn’t have enough security. The councillor promised that some of the things would be fixed by the government,” Nkosi concluded.

Ward 77 Councillor Thulani Dunjane said, “We have received a grant which will assist in fixing the entire complex.

“There is a federation that has all the sporting codes represented in it. Their representative should inform the federation on what is needed.”

Dunjane said the project would start soon because a Client Liaison Officer (CLO) was appointed.

“The club has a budget allocated to them by their association and some of the things must be done through their budget,” said Dunjane.

Dunjane said the CLO would be introduced between Tuesday and Wednesday then the project starts.

“Changing rooms and gates are some of the things that will be added to the complex,” Dunjane concluded.
