Learners demand water re-connection
Mable Zozo Community Centre is pleading for help from the community to pay off their R1m water bill.
Duduza – Learners from Mable Zozo Community Centre marched to the Customer Care Centre offices on Monday to demand the reconnection of water at their facility.
This is after the City of Ekurhuleni disconnected its water on Friday as part of the Pay-Up or be Disconnected campaign. The centre is said to owe the metro R1m in unpaid rates and is expected to pay R500 000 for reconnection.
The centre manager, Thandi Matsega, said they have been paying for the monthly rates but were not aware that there were underground leaks and inherited historical debts.

“We are prepared to make an agreement with the metro but we cannot afford the requested R500 000.
“Without water, we are unable to accommodate the learners because of concerns about hygiene. Some of the teachers are now forced to bring 20l of water bottles to school,” she explained.
