Taxi association resolves the fight between a resident and female taxi driver

Langaville – The fight between David Chauke and a female plus one taxi driver has been resolved.
This was after months that Chauke was living in fear. A female taxi driver assaulted him on different occasions for complaining about his driveway being blocked by taxi drivers operating outside his yard.
The 64-year-old said the problem started in June when he demanded that the drivers move their taxis in front of his gate as it was blocking his driveway. The drivers were also urinating along his security fence, leaving a foul smell.
While other drivers apologised and stopped, one female driver refused to hear the reason and started insulting the pensioner, stating she will not be told where to park by a foreign national.

During the altercation, the woman continued to assault Chauke. He said it pained him having to plead with the drivers daily to make way for him to get out of his home.
“In December, she assaulted me so badly that I ended up in the hospital. She threatened that she would ‘finish me off’ if we meet in public.”
Two weeks ago, she allegedly attempted to carry out her threat when she charged him at high speed with the vehicle.

“I escaped by sheer luck. When she realised that she missed me, she stopped her car and assaulted me before I was rescued by other drivers and my wife,” he added.
Chauke added that he is tired of living in fear. On Thursday, the Springs Taxi Association called the two parties together to mediate.
Springs PRO, Lyric Tau, said they have investigated the matter and resolved that the taxi driver was at fault.
“During the mediation, she was able to identify her faults and apologised. We have also asked the plus one taxi drivers to refrain from parking in front of his driveway,” he added.
