Crime prevention wardens hit the ground running in Duduza

The operation kicked off with a random school search in two schools in the area where dagga and cigarettes were among items found thrown in the school corridors.

Duduza – Crime prevention wardens had their first taste of action in Duduza on Friday.

They formed part of the station commander’s operations where they were integrated into a long-standing partnership between SAPS Ekurhuleni District, the Department of Community Safety, EMPD, Gauteng East Department of Education, WASP, Youth Desk, and CPF.

The operation kicked off with a random school search in two schools in the area where dagga and cigarettes were among items found thrown in the school corridors.

Duduza police spokesperson Sergeant Harry Manaka said the large contingent of officers then saturated Duduza, conducting stop-and-searches of vehicles and persons.

“Dagga and drugs were seized during raids at hotspots. Two suspects were arrested for dealing and possession of drugs. The introduction of wardens is a welcomed force multiplier that will seek to address various challenges relating to crime.

“All stakeholders remain committed to providing a high quality of service to ensure the safety of the community,” he added.
