Tsakani- On Youth Day (June 16), hundreds of job seekers flocked to the Faranani Multipurpose Centre to submit their CVs for the advertised positions in the Gauteng departments.
The Nasi Ispani campaign forms part of the 8 000 job opportunities created by the Gauteng government.
The applicants queued as early as 05:00, and when the gates finally opened, that queue snaked down Zulu Street.
Applicant Thembisile Mabuza from Tsakani said she arrived at 06:00, hoping to be one of the first in the queue.
“I have been unemployed for five years. I wanted to ensure I submitted my application to allow me to compete for the available positions.
“I am pinning my hopes on this opportunity because it will come with financial freedom for me and my family,” she said.
Thembisile hoped everything was above board and others did not get preferential treatment.
Enthusiastic about submitting his CV was college graduate Thuli Dlamini (32).
“This is a lifetime opportunity for many of us who searched for work for years without success.
“I have been unemployed my whole life because, after completing matric, I went to college and did my N-courses. This is an opportunity for me, and I hope I am one of the selected candidates,” said Thuli.
As the sun set, emotions ran high for those who had not submitted their documents. They feared the doors would close on them without having handed in their CVs.
Khanyisani Ndimande, qualified in management assistance, said she knew there were limited vacancies, but she hoped to make the cut.
