WAMUA raises women’s rights

WAMUA also held a successful fundraiser, selling food to sustain the organisation in supporting needy women.

Kwa-Thema – Women Affected by Mining United in Action (WAMUA) closed Heritage Month on Saturday with a march and raising awareness in the community about how women have a right to land.

According to Molly Mbangula, WAMUA’s co-ordinator, they did this because tradition and customary laws were the oppressors for women to own the land inherited by them.

Mbangula said the community should let women’s rights be considered and let women have their land because it is one of the bases for production and income generation and a way to sustain their families.

WAMUA also held a successful fundraiser, selling food to sustain the organisation in supporting needy women.

“We are grateful to the community because they supported us and enjoyed our traditional food,” concluded Mbangula.
