Duduza – The founder of Mamosa Educational Institute Mamsie Mashinini continues to wave the local flag high internationally.
She had an opportunity to represent the country at the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO) Year of Youth where she had to share some of the challenges that young South Africans are facing.
This event was made possible under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, ICESCO, in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
ICESCO, with 54 member states, was established in 1982 and has its headquarters in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco.
It aims to achieve interconnection, integration and strategic coordination among the countries of the Islamic world in its areas of competence, as well as strengthening the capacities of educational systems and improving their indicators in member states, in addition to stimulating the comprehensive cultural development of the peoples of the Islamic world.
This is ICESCO’s vision in the field of building the capacities of the youth of the Islamic world, the efforts of the Egyptian government in caring for and empowering youth during the era of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and the role of the Ministry of Higher Education in supporting creators and innovators, pointing out the honouring of a group of creative, talented and innovative young people in the Islamic world.
This year’s event theme was ‘Youth the core of sustainable development, opportunities and changes’. This was part of Mashisini’s responsibilities as a Girl Child Education Champion in Africa, an award she was conferred in May.
Mashinini said during the event she had the opportunity to share some of the challenges the youth in South Africa are facing which include teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, school dropout and unemployment.
“All these challenges impede for the youth to be able to fully support the economy of the country.
“The platform allowed attendees from different countries to share their challenges and ways in which they solve their challenges,” she explained.
Mashinini added her next step now is to disseminate the information to residents of Duduza and the country at large.
She has been selected as one of the women who will receive the Women Impacting The World Awards and the India International Awards, which will be held in Nigeria on December 1.
