Kwa-Thema – The EMPD’s Social Crime Prevention Unit (SCPU) officers visited the White City Clinic staff and patients to talk to them about domestic violence.

Since January is deemed ‘the stressful month’ in terms of finances and recovering economically from the festive season, sometimes stress fuels domestic violence in communities and homes.

According to the spokesperson for the EMPD, Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, during surveillance, EMPD officers noticed an influx of people at clinics and healthcare centres.

They then devised the Domestic Violence programme at those facilities to disseminate information to the masses.

The waiting area became the cornerstone of engagement in domestic violence talks that help to educate community members on this social ill.

Some topics discussed were protecting women and children, how to report cases of domestic violence and how to seek help for the victims.

The EMPD applauded the partnership with other departments, such as Health, uniting to share valuable information with the public.
