CWP workers clean Lefa-Ifa

Lefa-Ifa was cleaned to prepare for the 2024 school calendar

Kwa-Thema – The Community Work Programme (CWP) of Ward 74, ward committee members and the staff of Lefa-Ifa Secondary School conducted a school readiness programme by cleaning the schoolyard on a rainy Wednesday morning.

The school had overgrown grass and weeds on the pavement, with the learners’ toilets having no water for flushing.

School principal Disekeletšo Saboshego said, “I am happy that the CWP came to our school to help us clean, as we have a big schoolyard. The SGB members are also happy. We are truly grateful.”

Saboshego said the SGB has appointed a contractor to fix the water pipes and will start on Thursday.

CWP supervisor Mpho Tabane said, “This is one school we have and we will clean all of them, including the creches we have. We want the learners to come back to a clean environment.”

Ward 74 Clr Thulani Simelane said, “This is part of the ward’s school readiness campaign. We’ve gone to all schools and assessed how the school may need the community’s assistance. We saw it fit to start here and are looking to clean all the schools by Tuesday.”

Simelane said they are pleading with parents to play a part in their children’s lives by assisting them in getting emotionally ready for school.

“We don’t want a situation whereby come January 17, there are children already with absenteeism on their records,” he added.
