SAPS fatally shoots suspects in Kwa-Thema during CIT robbery bust
A shootout between the police and suspected robbers erupted in Kwa-Thema on November 30.
Kwa-Thema – Law enforcers foiled a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery, resulting in a shootout with the SAPS and private security companies in Kwa-Thema on November 30.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, Crime Intelligence members received information about a group of criminals planning to commit a CIT robbery who were to meet at a safe house in Kwa-Thema.
“A team of law enforcement agencies was activated to intercept the suspects. As the team pounced on the suspects at their safe house, they shot at the police, and a shootout ensued.

“Three suspects were arrested. Two suspects were fatally shot at the safe house, and the third a few meters away, while about six others escaped.
“The police recovered six rifles, including an AK-47, a pistol and magazines loaded with ammunition,” said Masondo, adding that the SAPS seized two Toyota Hilux bakkies used by the suspects. One bakkie had false registration plates and was reported hijacked in Siyabuswa in Mpumalanga.
“The search is underway for the suspects still at large. The arrested suspects face charges that include attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms, and conspiracy to commit cash-in-transit robbery,” he added.
