Where rhythm meets purpose: a joyful celebration of youth, culture, unity, and community giving
In line with Nelson Mandela’s legacy of service and equality, the festival will support underprivileged children through donations of school shoes and toiletries — essentials that promote both education and dignity.
In the spirit of commemorating Mandela Month, Royal Blaq Entertainment will host the Ekasi Music Fest on Saturday. The event aims to unite youth through sports and development.
“The festival is a vibrant celebration of music that goes beyond just entertainment, embodying a spirit of community upliftment and social responsibility,” says Palesa Mofokeng, the event’s coordinator.
“The event not only showcases an array of talented local musicians and artists but also serves a noble cause by donating school shoes and toiletries to underprivileged children.
“By combining music with philanthropy, the festival aims to provide essential resources that many children in the community need, thereby enhancing their educational experience and personal dignity.”
Children are encouraged to come out in numbers to enjoy a day specially curated for them. Alongside the music, they will have the opportunity to play netball, indigenous games, and board games, before being served warm soup and bread.
“These games are very beneficial because they promote physical activity and support developmental skills such as running, throwing, and jumping,” added Mofokeng.
“Games like kgadi, umgusha, and diketo teach rhythmic coordination and mobility. Fundamental skills needed in music.”
The community is encouraged to donate school shoes and toiletries to support this worthy cause.
