Altar servers honoured with support and mentorship day by local foundation

The Nkosinathi Mbonani Foundation hosted a special day for young altar servers, offering support, mentorship, and encouragement.

Tsakani – The Nkosinathi Mbonani Foundation served refreshments and hot dogs to the altar servers of the All Souls Anglican Church on August 17.

This was at a meeting in honour and support of the servers in the church’s All Souls Parish Tsakane Server’s Guild meeting.

“Altar servers assist priests during worship services. They wear cassocks and surplices to demonstrate reverence and dignity. Such servers are typically found in Roman Catholic, Anglican, and Lutheran churches.

“The meeting aimed to introduce the new mentor, Basetsana Sefoloshe, to address current challenges faced by the servers, and to discuss spiritual growth, fundraising, and teamwork for shared goals,” explained Nkosinathi Mbonani.

The foundation created a fun and creative environment for the altar servers through games, conversations, and social time.

Mbonani mentioned that it is important to support and offer young people a platform to vocalise their problems, thoughts, and share ideas in an impactful way.

“Church altar servers and other young church members do not get the recognition and support they deserve, which is why we found it fitting to dedicate this day to them at a place they love to spend time.

“We are striving to create a healthy and supportive environment for the children,” he added.
