Sihlee107 turns Caravan dreams into soulful beats and big ambitions

Sihlee107 shares how his caravan-born music journey has shaped his sound and inspired his rise in the local music scene.

Kwa-Thema – Siphesihle Masimini (20), popularly known as ‘Sihlee107’, is an artist inspired by SA record producer and DJ De Mthuda. He credits the artist’s work as inspiring his starting point in the music industry.

“I ventured into the clap-and-tap, soulful piano and tech piano genres. This path was motivated by my emotional expression, personal experiences, cultural influences and creative exploration,” explained Masimini.

Masimini began making music in 2019 from the humble confines of a caravan. That intimate space sparked creativity and birthed what he named caravan musiQ, which he defines as a raw, personal collection that laid the foundation for his sound.

He looks up to De Mthuda, Mick Man, Damuziqal Chef, and Kelvin Momo, and has worked with several local artists, such as Snqobzin, Mteigist ZA, Classic P.soul, Kera SA , Mlibatsi De Dj and Deep Mneva.

“I produced Background Bass with Snqobzin. I will soon drop an EP called Caravan MusiQ. It is rooted in my upbringing and where I come from.

“My vision is to see myself performing at big festivals, collaborating with renowned artists, and creating a sound that resonates with a wide audience,” he added.

The artist’s goal is to release a number of tracks and reach many streams on all streaming platforms. His creative journey has become a mission to inspire others through narrating unique stories on beats and rhymes. He has the will to push boundaries.

“My music is driven by a passion for creative expression. I love experimenting with different styles and sounds to create something unique.

“My personal experiences also play a big role in shaping my art from humble beginnings in my caravan to the stories I want to tell through my music,” he said.

“I have learnt more about myself and developed a greater sense of self-awareness because of music. My music has taken me on a journey that allows me to collaborate and connect with others.

“Through this craft, I have experienced new places, sounds and people, contributing to my growth as an artist and individual.”
