Springs Girls High School became one of the helping hands for Dumisani Nkosi and taxi driver Jozi Mahlangu’s bread project.

The school has donated milk and bread over the last two weeks and will be doing so until October. The school uses funds donated by staff or the learners. Some learners also donate milk to the school.

In July, Springs Advertiser reported on two men from KwaThema who give out bread to job seekers on Fridays on the corners of New Era and Selcourt, ‘Taxi duo feeds job seekers, one loaf at a time’.

The school’s principal, Angela Jones, told the publication that when she saw the article, she felt that it would fit well with their interest as a school in assisting the community.

She also said that by helping the Springs community, it is part of the school’s way of teaching the girls that the spirit of Ubuntu enriches their own lives and benefits the community.

“We have an Outreach Task Team as well as our RCL who drive these types of projects, from stationery collections to supporting women’s and children’s homes such as Leratong to bread tag and bottle top collections for wheelchairs and crocheting squares for our blanket drive for Nelson Mandela Day, to mention a few,” said Jones.

Nkosi expressed gratitude to the school for helping them in their project.

“We are extremely happy for the school’s contribution and it shows that the community is willing to help. The staff at the school has been good and friendly to us. They communicate with us about the drive that they are running,” he said.

He also said that the donation has made a huge difference to the project. Nkosi shared that the job seekers have been appreciative of what they are receiving.

“Although we give them the bread and milk on Fridays, they always wave to us during the week when we pass by,” said Nkosi.
