Duduza bids farewell to beloved ‘mother of softball’ Christine Magabe

Duduza remembers Christine Magabe, the beloved mother of softball and community.

Duduza – The community is mourning the death of Christine Mmantshadi Magabe, affectionately known as the mother of softball, who died on September 17 at the age of 73.

Born on May 31, 1952, Magabe dedicated much of her life to nurturing and supporting young people in Duduza. She famously turned her home into a clubhouse for the Heroes Softball Club, creating a safe and welcoming space for players and other youths in need.

Beyond the field, she organised and united mothers whose children played in the team, ensuring that the spirit of community extended to the families as well.

Friends and relatives remember her as the embodiment of motherly love, someone who gave freely of her financial, physical and spiritual support. Her presence touched many lives, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

The funeral service will take place at the Duduza Resource Centre on Saturday at 09:00. The cortege will leave at 11:30.
