Duduza XI clinches back-to-back KTD Super 16 Cup titles after beating LaRover 2-1

Duduza XI edged past LaRover in a tense final to retain their KTD Super 16 Cup title, thrilling fans with a hard-fought 2-1 win.

Kwa-Thema – Masters teams played their final games in their KTD Super 16 Cup at the Borman Ground on September 24.

The game between Duduza XI and LaRover kept spectators on the edge of their seats as the teams battled on the field.

Both teams came out strong, showing determination and grit, but Duduza XI seized control early, putting LaRover under pressure.

LaRover fought hard to create scoring chances but struggled to convert, with multiple near misses and blocked attempts frustrating their attacking efforts.

Despite their quick passes and persistent pressure, the team could not break through Duduza XI’s solid defence.

As the clock ticked on, the intensity of the match grew, with both sides making bold plays and strategic substitutions.

Duduza XI capitalised on their opportunities, while LaRover’s finishing let them down at critical moments.

Spectators witnessed a fierce and passionate battle.

The game ended 2-1 to Duduza XI.

The team won the KTD Super 16 Cup last year and again this year.

The LaRover coach and players were disappointed and angry.

The winning coach, Xolani Xaba, summarised the first half as hard, saying they did not commit at first.

“The first half was a difficult one for the team, as they struggled to find their rhythm and did not come to the party.

“The first-half mistakes were because of poor decision-making and rushed play, which made things harder. We were playing too many high balls and forgetting to put the ball down and play our football,” explained Xaba.

“When we went to halftime, I told my players to stop chasing quality that is not there, play with composure and enjoy the game. The advice worked.

“In the second half, the team returned to their identity and played their style with confidence and movement. That is why we won the game. It is something we always practice, and today it showed.”

The coach praised his players for their effort. He said they gave the game their best and deserve to enjoy the win.

Looking ahead, the coach emphasised the importance of focus and discipline.

“We need to improve our concentration levels and refine our technical play. Sometimes, we give the ball away too easily. If we stay sharp, we can continue building on this momentum,” he concluded.

The chairperson of the KDT Masters League, Jacob Smith, thanked the teams, supporters and organisers for contributing to the tournament’s success. He highlighted the importance of unity, teamwork and community spirit in making the finals memorable, while also looking forward to growing the league in the coming year.

“We want to say thanks to all the teams that participated, the fans and everyone who worked to make this a success.

“These games bring back memories for the community, showing the young kids what the older players can do. It keeps us busy, entertains the township and brings thr football spirit back to the people,” he said.

The LaRover coach and players did not wish to comment.
