KwaThema fighters showcase talent at Bert Collins boxing event in Springs
KwaThema fighters went head-to-head at Bert Collins’ boxing event in Springs which allowed Thabo Zulu to get his victory.
A battle between KwaThema boxing clubs took place at the Bert Collins Boxing Club tournament in Springs on October 4.
The three-round bout saw Thabo Zulu from Scorpion Boxing Club defeating Godfrey Radebe from Super Tigers Boxing Club.
Speaking to African Reporter at the tournament, Zulu said he was pleased with his performance, which allowed him to showcase his talent in front of a crowd.
“My win shows that I am on the right track in the sport. Despite being ready for the fight, my opponent’s skill came as a surprise. I thought I was going to win with a knockout, but that did not happen. That shows the competitive skill of my opponent,” Zulu said.

Radebe credited his coach for preparing him for the fight and acknowledged the support of his clubmates during training. He added that tournaments like these are helpful for his growth in boxing and his personal life.
“Boxing is a sport that helps me with my physique, and I want to be successful, become a professional boxer and represent my club and community,” Radebe said.
Super Tigers head coach Tshepo Mosheledi expressed disappointment after only one of his five boxers won at the tournament.
“It was a poor performance from my boxers, which is unusual. I believe it was due to exams, as the fighters who lost are in matric and did not have enough time to train,” Mosheledi said.

He added that the boxers have identified their mistakes and will work to improve.
“Tournaments for township boxers are important because they provide in-ring experience ahead of championships,” he said.
