The City of Ekurhuleni has officially welcomed Mduduzi Mbhense, who was sworn in as a new member of council on October 9.

The swearing-in ceremony was officiated by the speaker of council, Nthabiseng Tshivhenga, in line with Rule 11 (1), (2) and (3) of the City of Ekurhuleni standing orders by-law.

These rules require councillors to swear or affirm their faithfulness and obedience to the Republic, the Constitution and the Council, either before a magistrate during a council meeting or, by arrangement, before the speaker in the speaker’s office.

Mbhense fills the vacancy left by former councillor Alco Kufakwezwe Ngobese, who has since joined the National Assembly.

Tshivhenga congratulated Mbhense and encouraged him to uphold the values of good governance and service excellence.

“Mbhense can now fully participate in the business of council and contribute towards serving the people of Ekurhuleni with integrity and dedication,” said Tshivhenga.

The city expressed confidence in Mbhense’s commitment to the oath he has taken and his readiness to serve the residents of Ekurhuleni.
