FOLLOW-UP: Family mourns kind-hearted officer killed while helping neighbour
His sister remembers him as a man of love, respect, and integrity.
Tsakani – Constable Raymond Mzwakhe Khoza (36), the off-duty police officer who was fatally shot in the early hours of October 17, will be missed for his caring nature towards everyone with whom he crossed paths.
The constable, who was stationed at Brakpan SAPS in the Vispol Unit, was reportedly asleep at his home in Extension 13 when he was called upon to assist a neighbour.
He left his house and went to the neighbour’s property. While attempting to investigate the situation, he was shot multiple times. Despite his injuries, Khoza managed to flee back to his own home. His death has left his loved ones heartbroken and devastated.
“We are such a close-knit family, and we had so many plans,” said his sister, Bonisile Nhlapho.
She explained that they were notified of the shooting by another neighbour at the scene.

“Another neighbor who heard the gun shots, and thought he heard my brother’s voice, immediately contacted the family.
“My father and brothers rushed to the scene out of concern. When they got to the house the door was locked, and they broke it to gain access. When they found him he was barely breathing,” explained Nhlapo.
Khoza, a nine-year veteran of the SAPS, succumbed to the gunshot wounds in his home.
“As his big sister, I can confidently say that he was a good person. He loved children so much, and he respected everyone, young and old,” she added.
The incident is under investigation by the HAWKS. Khoza’s funeral service will be held at 08:00 on October 25 at Life Restoration Christian Centre on Rholihlahla Street, Ext 1.
