Lieutenant Colonel Pogiso Khambula takes helm as acting station commander at Duduza SAPS

Lieutenant Colonel Pogiso Khambula brings 31 years of experience to his new leadership role, with a focus on stabilisation, crime reduction, and officer empowerment.

Duduza – The Ekurhuleni District Office has announced the appointment of Lieutenant Colonel Pogiso Khambula as the acting station commander of Duduza SAPS.

He started serving as acting station commander on September 29. Khambula joined the SAPS on January 2, 1994, and has dedicated 31 years of loyal service to the police.

Khambula’s career began in the Internal Stability Division Unit 19 in Pretoria and spanned from 1994 to 1996, before transferring to Public Order Policing (POPS) in Chamdor, Krugersdorp, where he served from 1996 until 2007.

He was appointed Vispol commander at Hekpoort SAPS in Magaliesburg in 2007, where he served until 2009.

“I returned to Public Order Policing in Johannesburg from 2009 until 2018. My outstanding performance earned me a promotion to Captain, serving as Vispol Support Commander in Thembisa from 2018 to 2022,” he said.

From 2022 until early 2024, Khambula demonstrated his exceptional leadership as Vispol Commander and Acting Station Commander at Sebenza SAPS, before being promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. He later transferred to Ivory Park SAPS as Operational Commander in November 2024.

His commitment and professionalism were soon recognised again, leading to a short deployment as Acting Station Commander at Putfontein SAPS in Benoni before his recent redeployment to Duduza SAPS.

Upon assuming his new role, he observed that the station required stabilisation and set out three clear priorities.

“I aim to stabilise the station and strengthen internal operations. Reduce crime in Duduza through stakeholder involvement and community partnerships. Empower and motivate SAPS members by reminding them of their ‘Four Whiskey’s and Hotel,’” he said.

With more than three decades of policing experience and about nine years left before retirement, Khambula aims to mentor younger officers through wisdom gained over years of service.

“I believe in leading with compassion. Just by making one person feel special while serving them, you will make their day, and they, in turn, will spread the gospel,” he mentioned.

“When I leave Duduza, I want to be remembered as a man who was always smiling and helpful, but do not take chances, because I know what I am doing.”

With his depth of experience, strategic leadership, and community-centred approach, Khambula aims to make a lasting and positive impact while serving at Duduza SAPS.
