Poor service delivery frustrates Masechaba residents

Residents of Masechaba in Duduza are calling for urgent municipal action, saying they are fed up with potholes, illegal dumping and poor maintenance in the community.

Duduza – Disgruntled residents from Masechaba in Duduza say they have had enough of the poor maintenance and service delivery in the area.

For years, they have alleged that the neighbourhood has become increasingly dirty, with no visible municipal intervention.

The streets are riddled with potholes and stagnant water, which, residents say, pose serious health risks to children and families.

“Our street is full of potholes and stagnant water, which has impacted our health. Sometimes, kids play in this dirty water,” said a resident, who asked to remain anonymous.

Resident Thoko Mhlambi ( 48) is frustrated by the municipal neglect.

“These people don’t care about residents. They only think about us when it’s time for elections. Nothing has been done.

“The weeds and illegal dumping sites keep growing because the municipality has failed to act. Our ward councillor is corrupt and selfish,” she said

Themba Khumalo (56) said they demand transparency and accountability in local governance.

“We have never had proper infrastructure in our community. However, a budget is allocated for service delivery every year. Nothing will ever change in Duduza as long as we have dishonest leadership.”

Ward Clr Bongani Hlophe said his office had repeatedly reported the issues to the relevant departments.

“We continuously report these matters, but the officials responsible do not do their jobs. Yet, community members are quick to accuse councilors. I will follow up, and we appeal to residents to be patient with us,” he said.
