Tsakani crackdown: Police close illegal shebeen, seize firearm and arrest over 100 suspects in Ekurhuleni operations
Joint law enforcement operations across Ekurhuleni lead to multiple arrests, closure of an illegal shebeen, and the recovery of an unlicensed firearm.
Tsakani – As part of the ongoing commitment to protect citizens, the SAPS, EMPD, Gauteng Traffic Police, community patrollers, security companies and other law enforcement agencies in Ekurhuleni policing precincts conducted operations from May 1 to 3.
These operations focused on priority crimes across the district and aimed to assert the state’s authority.
“During those operations held over the weekend, an illegal shebeen was closed in Tsakani and an unlicensed firearm was removed from the wrong hands.
“SAPS members in Tsakani were busy with patrol duties in the area when they received information about someone discharging a firearm in public while driving his motor vehicle,” explained Ekurhuleni SAPS district spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela.
“They spotted the vehicle and upon searching the driver, they found a firearm with six live rounds of ammunition.
“The suspect told the police that the firearm belonged to his father. He was then arrested and detained at Tsakane SAPS.”
Detectives across Ekurhuleni Policing Precincts arrested 112 suspects while tracing them on May 2.
Sekgobela mentioned that among the suspects, 84 were arrested for contact crimes, four for property crime, 23 for other serious crime and 17 for gender-based violence.
“Other suspects were nabbed for crimes such as drunk driving, possession of drugs, dealing in drugs, and being illegal immigrants,” she said.
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole commended the efforts of law enforcement agency members and other stakeholders for their team spirit in the fight against crime and for making the Ekurhuleni district a safer place.
