Tsakani tavern owner nabbed for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition
Police acted on an urgent tip-off after shots were fired, recovering a pistol, magazines and ammunition at a Langaville tavern.
Tsakani – Members of the Ekurhuleni District Crime Intelligence Unit acted on urgent information about a suspect allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm after shots were reportedly fired at a tavern in Langaville on May 5.
The information was operationalised in collaboration with the Tsakane Trio Task Team, and officers proceeded to an address in Langaville Extension 3.
Ekurhuleni SAPS district spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela said that upon arrival, the tavern was closed.
“After knocking for a long time, the door was eventually opened, and the suspect was found inside the premises,” she said.

Police conducted a search after the suspect denied having a firearm. During the search, officers recovered a black 9mm Lorcin pistol with serial numbers intact, along with two magazines and 37 rounds of ammunition.
Sekgobela said the suspect was unable to produce a valid firearm licence and claimed the weapon belonged to his father, alleging he used it for protection against business robberies in the area.
“The suspect was then arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and taken to Tsakane SAPS for detention,” she added.
Ekurhuleni district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole commended the team for their efforts in tackling the proliferation of illegal firearms and thanked community members for providing information that assists police in making arrests.
