Khanyisani Social Organisation Centre brings parents and learners together for Mandela Day

The Mandela Day event gave parents a chance to experience their children's daily activities at the centre and better understand the work of teachers.

Tsakani – The Khanyisani Social Organisation Centre in Tsakani commemorated Mandela Day for their learners and parents on July 20.

The day aimed to give parents insight into the activities and skills their children develop through learning and play.

One of the parents, Nokuthula Nkosi, expressed gratitude to the centre’s principal, Phiwa Masuku, for the day.

She explained that they got to spend the day with the children away from home and saw the challenges the teachers face daily.

“As parents, we are grateful and got to play various games with the children and used this day to bond with the little ones, and also see the friends they have made,” said Nkosi.

Masuku said the day was aimed at educating parents about the lives the children lead at the centre.
She added that the parents got to see how the children behave.

“I am happy that the day went well, and the parents enjoyed the day as well. We all know that Mandela loved children, so we wanted them to know about that love through their parents,” said Masuku.

Masuku shared that children got to see their parents play and were taught how some games are played.
The parents also donated clothes, which were given to local residents.
