Leratong A Place of Crisis Centre is appealing to the community for support as it faces financial challenges which could force it to close its doors.

The centre provides shelter and support to women and children escaping abuse and violence while helping them start a new life.

However, the centre is currently facing a funding shortfall and is concerned about its ability to continue providing these services.

Centre board member and fundraiser Nthabiseng Malotane said the situation has become urgent and that the centre needs the community’s support to remain operational.

“The government does fund us, but we have not received our funding for this quarter. We are now three months behind and have used up all our resources, so it is a desperate situation.

“We need money to pay the people who work here, to cover petrol costs, and to cover our everyday needs.

“This centre is not only for women from Springs; we provide services to women from across Ekurhuleni,” Malotane said.

Makofane said the needs of the women and children supported by the centre continue to grow while the available funds remain limited.

“Every donation, no matter how big or small, can make a difference. We are asking the community and local businesses to stand with us during this difficult time,” she said.

The centre is appealing for once-off donations, monthly pledges and in-kind support.
