Masimini Primary School raises breast cancer awareness among learners

Learners and staff were encouraged to prioritise their health and practise healthy habits.

Masimini Primary School recently hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness programme to inform and educate its learners on the importance of knowing their bodies and taking care of their health.

Speakers from the Department of Health, SAPS, and local NPOs engaged with the learners. Sister Zinhle Nkosi from the health department spoke about identifying or detecting changes in the breast as well as checking for other symptoms of breast cancer.

The SAPS talked about the importance of taking care of one’s body and saying no to inappropriate touches.

“It was important for the school to host this event to teach girls and women the importance of taking care of their health and how to identify or detect changes in the breasts.

“I hope the learners and staff gained valuable knowledge from the programme, put the information to good use and shared it with their families and friends,” the coordinator, Nomasonto Ngwathela said.

Stephen Simelane taught the staff and learned aerobics to highlight the significance of exercising and staying healthy.
