Refiloe Mgcina, founder of Resurrect Foundation and community leader, wrote a letter to the editor.

“We are thankful to our president for showing concern by taking responsible measures in dispensing members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to assist the South African Police Service in making sure we comply with the safety regulations to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

“However, a women’s social movement is still limited in South Africa because of the violence against women and children.

” Violence against women and children is as serious as Covid-19.

• Why not release SANDF in the search of Amahle Thabethe who went missing more than a year ago in the streets of Tsakane?

• Why not send the SANDF to protect a girl child and women?

“I must say that I am disappointed in our president after writing several emails to discuss the strategic plan to end violence against women and children, to no avail, yet he is available for Covid-19.

“When it comes to matters of abuse against women and children, all he does is talk and talk without any action.

“Mr President, if you can take action in all troubling matters, I believe South Africa will be a beautiful country.”
