RDP Masters win big in the Tsamaya Masters Social Football League

The league was created by the late James Moloto of the RDP Masters.

KwaThema – Having been in existence for more than 25 years, the Tsamaya Masters Social Football League remains one of the most competitive senior leagues in Kwatsaduza.

The league was created by the late James Moloto of the RDP Masters.

Andries Mofokeng, who is part of the management team at RDP Masters Football Club, says: “He noted that there was no local league in which we as locals could partake in.

“The pressure became too much because we were spending a lot of money on travelling for us to participate in tournaments.”

“The success of the league is evident in that even former professional players, when they retire, they come back home and join these local teams.

“We are continuing to grow and leading by example to young players within the community.”

There are 16 teams registered in the league.

On March 15 they wrapped up their Super 8 Cup tournaments.

Eight teams in the top eight battled it out for the number-one position, with Geluksdal Masters FC claiming the second position and RDP Masters winning the tournament by four points to two.

RDP Masters walked away with gold medals and a sheep.

Simon Marothi, who is part of the management structure for the Tsamaya Masters Social Football League, shows African Reporter the first trophy to be won by the RDP Masters back in 2012 and the new trophy.

RDP player Vika Vilakazi says: “We have worked hard for this top 8.

“We went back to the drawing board with challenges we encountered last season.

“Teamwork is very important in sport and working as a team ensured we came back better and stronger.”

The team celebrated their winning on Sunday at the clubhouse, while also taking precautionary measures with regards to the Covid-19 virus.

RDP Masters captain Jacky Maseko says: “When you prepare well, everything falls into place.

“We are blessed to have such great management for the team and the league.

“A great management structure produces fruitful results.

“This league has managed to survive all these years. Even today it is still standing and it shows that sport plays a huge role in bringing the community together.

“There’s great discipline to be learned from soccer, which is why I encourage young people to get involved in sport.”

Local teams battle it out for the number-one spot.
