Basketball now practised at Theo Twala
The school has decided to collaborate with a local basketball club to launch the new sport.
Kwa-Thema – Learners from Theo Twala recently learned with excitement that the school will be introducing a new sporting code.
The school has decided to collaborate with a local basketball club to launch the new sport at the school.
The initiative will be facilitated by the Kwa-Thema Bulls Basketball Club.
Acting school principal Phumla Sehume said they are excited about this development.
“As a school, we believe that a child has to learn in totality. Sport is a huge part of learning, not all children are academically gifted.

“This initiative promises to be exciting with lots of benefits to our learners,” she said.
Facilitator, professional basketball player and Kwa-Thema Bulls captain Thandokuhle Kunene explained the initiative is part of the club’s commitment to the development of the youth.
“The goal is to motivate young people to get active. Sport has proven to be very beneficial.
“I believe it will spark enthusiasm for learning among the learners. And what better way to teach them discipline other than sport?” asked Kunene.
Some learners questioned how tall one needs to be to play basketball. Kunene laughed off the question while explaining that height is not a prerequisite.
“You don’t need to have a specific height to play basketball. I always say commitment is key in everything. Have the heart for it, everything else will fall into place.
“The most important thing I would say is learn how to put the ball in the hoops,” he advised.
The school is hoping to get sponsorship to help with its sporting facilities.
