Amateur football on suspension

Safa on Monday suspended all non-professional football activities with immediate effect.

Safa last Monday suspended all non-professional football activities with immediate effect.
The announcement was made as the country continues to face increasing numbers of Covid-19 infections.
The Ekurhuleni regional executive officer, Nhlanhla Kenneth Nsibanyoni, said: “The association has heeded the announcement made by the president to put the country on alert level four and suspend all social gatherings in order to combat the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

“In view of the above, we have taken a stand to suspend all amateur football activities with immediate effect until further notice.
“The suspension will, however, exclude the Super Leagues, which are near conclusion or completion.”
Teams are advised to take control of the situation by informing players not to partake in any unorganised or unstructured football tournaments.
Speaking on behalf of the Springs Local Football Association (SLFA), president Innocent Mayoyo said the ban will tempt players to partake in unstructured games.

“This decision is opening a can of worms, as players want to be on the field.
“With the ban, opportunists will be jumping to take advantage of the situation and exploit our players through unstructured games.
“Whereas under the association’s players know they have to sanitise and observe social distancing,” he said.
