Lack of sports facilities a cause for concern
Sakkie Kgaphola says children in Langaville have no proper sports field.
Langaville – The lack of properly structured and functional sporting facilities is a cause for concern.
This is according to Ward 79 sports coordinator Sakkie Kgaphola, who said children in Langaville have no proper sports fields.
He added that the gravel grounds, which they are forced to use at the moment, are poorly maintained.

“We have lots of eco-parks that are being misused.
“If only that money was channelled into creating functional sports facilities for the young ones and our youth, it would have been a great investment.
“Today, we are sitting with a lot of talented young people but have no place to practice or nurture their talents,” he explained.

He is also the founder of the Langaville Athletics Health and Fitness Academy, which was established in 2018.
They are using the gravel, unfenced and unstructured ground in Extension Seven.
The ground is filled with stones, not levelled and is used for various sporting codes.

He is pleading with local businesses and contractors to contribute to reviving sport by building sports facilities through their social responsibility initiatives.
The academy is also looking for mentors and coaches for their gymnasts.

Eleven-year-old Tsholofelo Kgatle has been doing gymnastics since last year and would love to represent South Africa at the Olympics one day.
“I was introduced to the sport by a neighbour of mine.
“It is fascinating and I love it,” she said.
