Disabled athletes set new records

Kwa-Thema – Kwa-Thema Disability Club players walked away as champions at the Toyota SA Sports for the Physically Disabled National Championships held at Germiston Stadium.
The six-day long championship saw the physically disabled athletes fighting to be crowned winners.
The team of seven soccer players and 14 athletes managed to break records and walked away with 21 gold, five silver and two bronze medals.

Kwa-Thema Disability Club returned as champions after competing in the Toyota SA Sports for the Physically Disabled National Championships held at Germiston Stadium.

Lungiselelo Ndlovu broke three records – South African, African and World Standard records in the 800m in 2.02 minutes in the seniors category.
His teammate Siphesihle Mabena managed to set a new record of 18.88m in the javelin in the u-14.
Collen Mahlalela set a new record of 11:08 minutes in the 100m in the seniors.
Team coach Aubrey Mathibela said he is proud that three Kwa-Thema soccer players have been selected to be in the national team.

“Two athletes were selected to compete in the upcoming Common Wealth Games which are set to be held later in the year. The players have worked very hard to qualify for the Commonwealth Games and we have achieved that goal,” he explained.
He added that they are now working hard to remain fit to tackle other upcoming championships.
“I want my players to win the international competition and be crowned as international champions,” he added.
