Kwa-Thema – Springs Home Sweepers FC women’s team started the Sasol League Games with a poor start by losing 3-1 to Diepkloof Ladies team on Saturday.
The first game of the season was played at Fiat Stadium in Soweto.
The team’s technical director, Mkhonza Mkhonzana, said he is happy with the way the players challenged the Diepkloof team.
“They fought to the bitter end and showed they are ready and fit to win the league but only failed to find the back of the net.
“We will go back to the drawing board and fix some of the challenges we identified to be able to collect enough points,” he explained.

Mkhonzana added that one of the challenges they face in the league is that of age.
The team has a squad of players as young as 12 playing against players in their early 20s.
“We are trying to toughen up our players because we are grooming them for the national team.
“We are not invested in winning the league but grooming our players for their future,” he added.
He added they cannot achieve this goal if they don’t allow young players to grow in the team.
The team is inviting interested players from the age of 12 to 20 to join.
Those interested may call Mkhonzana on 081 371 4011.
Sasol League is a South Africa’s semi-professional women’s football league aimed to grow and develop women’s football.
