Sports confederation’s workshop postponed
The workshop was organised with the intention to educate the confederation's members about the roles and responsibilities of the permanent executive that will be elected on July 16, which is the date for this year's elective congress.
Kwa-Thema – The Kwa-Thema Sports Confederation’s interim executive committee has been tasked with coming up with an alternative date for the sports body’s pre-elective congress workshop.
This is after it was postponed on Tuesday.
The workshop was organised to educate the confederation’s members about the roles and responsibilities of the permanent executive that will be elected on July 16, which is the date for this year’s elective congress.
Fourteen members, including three from the interim committee, attended Tuesday’s meeting at the Kwa-Thema Sports Complex.

The meeting turned into a planning session ahead of the all-important elective congress, after the workshop was postponed due to the unavailability of the appointed individual who was set to lead the proceedings.
The idea of the workshop came about during the first planning session at the same venue two weeks ago, after some members admitted to not being well-informed about the role of the confederation in local sports.
The executive committee’s chairperson, Edward Mtshali, was encouraged by the turnout for this week’s meeting, despite the setback.
“It shows the interest of the people in Kwa-Thema to see sports getting off the ground.
“Unfortunately, the person who was supposed to give us more information about the person who was supposed to give the workshop today did not attend.
“But we are sure that, in our next meeting, the date (for the workshop) will be mentioned so we can have a way forward,” he said.

He added that the attendance for the meeting was encouraging especially since representatives for sport from ward committees were also in attendance.
“We would like to work with them to be able to reach the community. That’s why we feel very happy about their attendance,” he said.
Mtshali explained the need to outsource the duty of leading the workshop.
“The external people who conduct workshops are people who are well-prepared, well-trained, people who will bring what will be needed by the executive, who are the sports leaders in Kwa-Thema, so they can know how to take people forward.
“Sometimes we bring people in only to find that what they present is not of good quality.”
