Verbal Warning the new Top Eight Tournament winner

RDP Masters’ three-year winning streak comes to an end.

Kwa-Thema – Tsamaya’s Top Eight Tournament ended on Sunday when RDP Masters met Verbal Warning in the finals at the Tlakula Ground.

The two teams met for the first time in the finals and Verbal Warning ended RDPs three-year winning streak.

RDP failed to defend their title against a team making its first Top Eight final appearance. Verbal Warning scored their first goal within five minutes of the game starting.

Despite creating chances, RDP failed to equalise in the first half.

The game was played at the Tlakula Ground.

The second half saw the Verbal Warning goalie leave the 18th area. That led to a defender deliberately using his hands to defend a goal, and he was handed a red card for his professional foul.

RDP was awarded a penalty and put it to good use by equalising.

Toward the end of the second half, Verbal Warning scored the winning goal to leave a final score of 2-1.

Verbal Warning’s captain, Fano ‘Madakas’ Sibanyoni, said, “Congratulations to our team.

The legends greeted the players and were led by the chairperson, John ‘The Bull’ Sibeko.

“We discussed our goal towards the finals, and it was to bring the trophy home. Now we are going for the league whereby we will defend our title.”

George Ngoma, the Tsamaya chairperson, said, “It wasn’t easy for these finalists to get this far.

“These two teams are the giants of Tsamaya, and they have shown their character.

“Today, they displayed good football skills.”

RDP coach John ‘Mourinho’ Mossie said, “I am disappointed at the results.

“We had a lot of chances which we misused. Well done to the winners and to my players. We are going back to the drawing board.”

Besides the fans, the SA Soccer Legends organisation also attended the game. They presented the awards to the winning team, who walked away with a live sheep, a trophy and gold medals.
