Kwa-Thema – Thabang Ramaila (16) has been selected to represent South Africa in England after earning a place in the Travel and Sport Invitational Soccer Team.

The talented young footballer was chosen following his outstanding performance at the Clive Barker Soccer Festival held at Glenwood, where he impressed selectors and secured an invitation to tour England in March 2027.

The Springs Boys High School learner balanced school and football, saying the balance has taught him discipline, responsibility, and hard work.

He is a player for Ace Auto Ayoba FC, playing as a left back and sometimes as a left winger. Ramaila explained that his football journey began at Augusto Palacios Football Academy, where he was inspired by his older brother, Mpho Ramaila, whose love for football motivated him to start playing and work hard to improve his game.

Ramaila is also participates in local football games and tournaments. He has been playing in the Springs LFA and representing Springs Boys High School.

“Playing in the Springs LFA has helped me develop as a footballer by competing against talented players and improving my skills.

“Representing Springs Boys High School has also been a proud achievement because it has allowed me to grow both on and off the field while representing my school with pride,” he said.

Ramaila earned the opportunity to participate in Clive Barker Tournament in Durban through his performances, dedication, and consistency during training and matches.

His coaches believed in his ability and selected him to form part of the team that competed at the Clive Barker Tournament.

“Playing at the Clive Barker Tournament was an incredible experience. I competed against some of the best young footballers in South Africa, learned a lot from every match, and gained confidence playing at a high level.

“I was selected after my performances, where the selectors noticed my consistency, discipline, and commitment throughout the competition,” he explained.

When Ramaila heard he had been selected for the tour, he said the moment was beyond exciting.

“I felt extremely happy, honoured, and grateful. It was a dream come true, and I immediately thought about my mother, my family, and everyone who has supported me throughout my football journey.

“This opportunity means everything to me and my family. It is a reward for all the sacrifices my mother and family have made to support my football journey. I want to make them proud and show that hard work always pays off,” Ramaila added.

Ramaila says he is preparing for the international tour by training consistently, staying fit, eating healthy, listening to his coaches, and making sure that he is mentally ready to represent his country and his family.

“I am excited to experience football in England, play against international teams, learn new styles of football, meet new people, and represent South Africa with pride.

“One of the biggest challenges has been balancing school and football, as well as overcoming financial challenges,” he cited.

Ramaila cited that his mother has been his biggest role player and cheerleader. He explained that his mother always believes in him and truly supports his dream.

“I have also received incredible support from my coaches, who have helped me improve as a player and encouraged me to keep working hard.

“My dream is to become a professional footballer, represent South Africa and play for one of the biggest clubs in the world. I also want to use football to build a better future for my mother and my family,” mentioned Ramaila.

His message to young footballers who hope to follow in his footsteps is to believe in themselves.

“Stay disciplined, and never stop working hard. There will be challenges along the way, but do not let them stop you.

“Listen to your coaches, respect the game, and always give your best. Your dedication today can create opportunities that change your life tomorrow,” he advised.
