Duduza: SAPS arrests two in illegal mining bust, eight others for drugs
Police raid uncovers illegal mining equipment and drugs during high-density operation in Duduza.
Duduza – The Duduza SAPS shut down an illegal mining operation during the Ekurhuleni District High Density Operation, which was held in the area on March 16.
Illegal mining activities were found to be taking place in a shack behind a residence in Zamani.
The police arrested two men, one of whom is a Lesotho national.
“The men were found in possession of illegal mining equipment consisting of a phenduka, a phenduka stand, a 10lt bucket containing iron balls (used for grinding) and a small motor which is used for illegal mining,” explained acting station commander Lieutenant Colonel Pogiso Khambula.
The two suspects were arrested, and a docket of illegal mining was opened. Khambula stated that during the operation, the police also arrested eight men for possession of drugs.
“The SAPS will continue to have these operations in efforts to reduce crime in the community and to shut down all illegal operations,” he said.
