Amazokozoko win big at Nomndayi Easter Games in Kwa-Thema

Runners-up PSG put up a strong fight throughout the competition and were rewarded with R40 000, a kit and silver medals.

Kwa-Thema – The final games of the Nomndayi Tournament Easter Games took place at Kwa-Thema Stadium on April 6. Games were played for a duration of four days.

The 16-team knockout football competition delivered thrilling action and memorable moments for fans and players alike.

Amazokozoko emerged as the new champions, marking a historic achievement for the club as they claimed their first-ever Nomndayi title.

“Their path to glory was made even more remarkable by the early exit of the 2025 defending champions, Springs Highlanders, who were knocked out in their opening match of the tournament,” explained Nkosinathi Zwane, media and marketing personnel.

Amazokozoko walked away with the grand prize of R80 000, along with a full kit and gold medals.

Semi-finalists Metro Stars and Edenvale each received R10 000 for their efforts.

The tournament once again proved to be a highlight on the local football calendar, showcasing emerging talent and fostering community spirit over the Easter weekend.

“Thank you to all our tournament supporters and teams that participated. Without the community, we would not have these games annually.

“The Easter Games once again highlighted the importance of sport in bringing the community together while providing a platform for local talent to shine,” he said.

Individual football awards:

  • Goalkeeper of the Tournament: Bayanda Mkhonza
  • Midfielder of the Tournament: Sandile Nkosi
  • Defender of the Tournament: Mandla Tebane
  • Top Goal scorer: Katlego Matseme

In addition to football, a netball tournament was also held at Kwa-Thema Stadium over two days, featuring eight teams.

Seven Stars Netball Club claimed first place, followed by Scorpions Netball Club in second position. Black Eagles Netball Club secured third place, while CBD finished fourth.

Netball individual awards:

  • Best Midcourt: Makgotso Mogale (Black Eagles)
  • Best Shooter: Zodwa Qoko (Scorpions)
  • Most Valuable Player (MVP): Thando Mncube (Seven Stars)
