Nurses honoured for compassion and community care on International Nurses Day
Speaking about Sr Thabile Mhlanga, who works at Pholosong Hospital, Zwane said she played a major role in her life last year while her mother was bedridden.
On International Nurses’ Day, Sibongile Zwane expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Sr Thabile Mhlanga and Sr Promise Mthombeni for the love, care and support they have shown to people in their communities.
Speaking about Mhlanga, who works at Pholosong Hospital, Zwane said she played a major role in her life last year while her mother was bedridden.
“My mom was bedridden, and Mhlanga used to come and help me for free. She showed us love and respect.
“Sometimes I would feel depressed and stressed, but she would encourage me and tell me not to give up on my mother,” said Zwane.
She added that Mhlanga served with love and a smile, proving that nursing is truly a calling. Even after her mother passed away, Mhlanga continued to comfort and encourage her with the Word of God.

“May the good Lord continue to sustain and bless her in Jesus’ name,” she said.
Zwane also praised Sr Promise Mthombeni, who works at Daveyton Clinic, and is affectionately known at church as sister P.
“She plays a big role at church. When people are sick, she helps us. I remember when I was very sick, she even used her own money to buy medication for me,” said Zwane.
She said Mthombeni encourages healthy living and supports many young girls at church by motivating them to find their life’s purpose.

Zwane shared that Mthombeni has a passion for working as a midwife because she cannot bear to see people suffering in pain.
“She once told me that after helping a patient deliver a baby, the pain is gone and that brings her joy,” she said.
Zwane added that having nurses in churches is important because some people suffer both physically and spiritually.
“All I can say is that it is good to have nurses in churches. It is good to pray for the sick and to have someone who can also assist medically when needed,” she added.
She thanked Mthombeni for her compassion and prayed for God’s continued blessings over her life.
