Tsakani’s Pristine Christ shares his journey ahead of Imilingo EP release

Local musician Percy Khumalo, better known as Pristine Christ, says music changed his life.

Tsakani – Percy Khumalo (27), known by his stage name Pristine Christ, says music has become more than a career choice; it has been a source of healing and purpose.

Originally from KwaZulu-Natal, Khumalo now lives in Tsakani and says his passion for music grew because it became his therapist during difficult times.

“I fell in love with music because it’s my therapist,” he said.

He credits legendary artists such as Tupac Shakur, Skwatta Kamp, and Teargas for inspiring him to pursue music. His journey began in 2008 when he sang in church.

“I was lonely until music came into my life,” he cited.

Over the years, Pristine Christ has collaborated with artists such as Pro Juju, Tehtection, Lowkeyjay, Zoe, Wanda Mageba, Nakhathide, Sim Cruz and Phoenix.

He hopes to work with more artists from Kwa-Thema, Tsakani, Duduza and Johannesburg in the future.

The rapper and singer is preparing to release his seven-track EP, Imilingo, on July 10.

He is also working on an album titled Room 22, which explores themes of love, loyalty and honesty in relationships.

The album is expected to be released around September, following a listening session for fans. Through his music, Percy hopes to inspire others.

“I want people to stay alive and inspire them to do better,” he said.

Although he has not yet achieved all of his goals, he believes his renewed focus and commitment to his craft will help him succeed.

His sound blends trap soul with a distinctive kasi flavour, incorporating different languages to reflect his background and connect with a wider audience.

Pristine Christ also says attending music workshops has helped him develop as an artist, and he continues to grow with every opportunity to learn.

He has performed at venues including Kasi Chevi, Bahamas and the Johannesburg Theatre, and has also travelled to Mpumalanga after receiving an invitation from Yung Kings Empire.

Looking ahead, he hopes to perform in more places and continue building his career while inspiring others through his music.
