Robbery not investigated by Eden Park SAPS

EDEN PARK – The park near the traffic lights at the entrance of Eden Park is notorious for the non-stop robberies taking place after sunset.

The robbers, known by many residents, use the park as their drug den as they congregate around night fires waiting for their victims.

On Saturday May 17, at 18:00, a woman of Alfa Street was robbed of her handbag on her way home from work. The woman, who asked not to be named said:'”They were standing around a fire near the water valve house. The three guys confronted me and grabbed my handbag and ran down Borgward Street. I know their faces which they did not even bother to hide. I lost my ID, money, cellphone and office keys.”

The woman further alleged that when she got to the police station to report the robbery, the police simply said, “What must we do. You know them. Go speak to them and come back and tell us what they said.”

No case was opened. The RECORD consulted Captain Mhlophe concerning the action and remarks of the officers on duty on that particular day and he promised to investigate the matter.

It was alleged by the victim that one of the robbers is the notorious thief of Covair Street and another one is from Alfa Street not far from where she stays.
