WATCH: Eden Park’s I MATTER NPO is running a winter beanies, scarves drive

I MATTER’s latest initiative is aimed at giving warmth through sewed beanies and scarves for vulnerable children, women organisations across SA and parts of our neighbouring country of Lesotho.

Eden Park’s I MATTER NPO is currently running a winter beanies and scarves drive aimed at giving warmth to vulnerable children, women, and organisations across SA and parts of our neighbouring country of Lesotho.

The Alberton Record was invited to I MATTER’s office on Vaxhaull Street, in Eden Park, where we were shown how the beanies and scarves are made. There were about a dozen women cutting and sewing the handmade materials.

“Some of the organisations set to receive these beanies and scarves are the PEARL programme children, women support groups and some children and women’s organisations in Lesotho,” said I MATTER’s Natalie Abrahams.

“Our target is to make 500 beanies and scarves, which would be enough to cover our current causes here in SA and Lesotho,” added Abrahams.

The idea of making beanies and scarves came about after Abrahams observed that many vulnerable children were enduring very cold winters without warm clothing. I MATTER is seeking assistance from local residents, businesses, and other public-benefit organisations willing to support its winter drive.

The organisation requires donations of fabric and sewing machines, which would enable more people to participate in making beanies and scarves.

They also need people who are willing to buy the material for children, which costs just R30. I MATTER is also accepting in-kind donations to ensure that the winter drive assists as many people as possible.
