Grade 10 to 12 learners urged to apply for free Smart ID cards in Alberton
The Department of Home Affairs is encouraging learners aged 16 and older in Alberton and surrounding areas to apply for their first Smart ID card during the school holidays, ahead of the National Senior Certificate examinations.
Grade 10 to 12 learners aged 16 and older in Alberton and surrounding areas are encouraged to take advantage of the school holidays to apply for their free Smart ID cards at the Alberton Home Affairs office.
The initiative, running until July 21, aims to ensure learners are prepared for their National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations and future opportunities.
According to Alberton High School, a Smart ID card is essential for learners writing their matric examinations, as candidates cannot sit for the exams without valid identification.
Beyond the classroom, the Smart ID card also enables young South Africans to exercise their democratic right to vote in local, provincial and national elections once they become eligible.
Learners can visit the Alberton Home Affairs office from Monday to Friday between 15:00 and 17:00.
No booking is required.
The campaign is open to learners 16 years and older, and first-time Smart ID cards are issued free of charge.
Learners are reminded to attend in their full school uniform.
