Community celebrates opening of Naledi House to support children in need.
On July 16, the Naledi House children’s home was officially opened.
The facility will serve as a safe haven for children coming from abusive homes and other vulnerable circumstances.
Naledi House will provide temporary accommodation for children in the area while they await permanent placement in foster or adoptive homes.
The home is designed to give children stability so they can focus on their education, healing and overall well-being.

“Before this, we often had to place children in facilities far from their schools and support networks. Now we have a place right here in Alberton where they can feel safe and start to rebuild,” said Anubha Mackerdhuj, head of Alberton Child Welfare.

“Naledi House means more than just walls and beds. It means dignity, hope and the chance for every child who walks through these doors to believe in a better tomorrow. Our team will now have the space to love, nurture and walk alongside these children as they heal and prepare for the future.”
The opening of Naledi House was made possible through the generosity of sponsors and community partners who donated time, resources and funding to refurbish and equip the home.

The opening ceremony was attended by community members, sponsors and child welfare advocates.

The Alberton Child Welfare team said the house will enable the organisation to accommodate more vulnerable children from Alberton and surrounding areas under one roof, while providing counselling, homework support and recreational activities alongside daily care.

With Naledi House now operational, Alberton Child Welfare aims to strengthen its work in protecting children’s rights and ensuring no child in the community has to face a crisis alone.
