Volunteers with a mission

A brave team reaching out to those in need of support.

FOR the past eight years, the Brackendowns Victim Support Unit has been serving the Brackendowns Policing sector.

The team is made up of Romy Hiralal, Cassandra Stark, Elsie van der Merwe, Zinhle Zuma, Joe Stark, Sanet Williams, Julie Mc Gill and Lindile Moloi. They are ably led by Captain Trevor Bohler.

Captain Bohler is notified by the Brackedowns SAPS of an incident that requires the Victim Support Units assistance. He in turn phones one of the counsellors. The counsellor then goes to the incident where the police are. The counsellor is a volunteer and receives no remuneration (They use their own cars, pay for their petrol and any phone calls that need to be made). Upon arrival the counsellor assists the people involved in the incident as well as their family members. The counsellor tries to get to the scene within an hour of the incident occurring.

This unit offers a 24 hour, seven days a week, service to the community.

If anyone living in the Brackendowns policing sector would like to join this successful unit contact Captain Bohler on 082 967 7986.
